Volunteers Needed!

ERICA has a very small paid staff and relies heavily on volunteers to further its mission.  Become an advocate or mentor to help refugees navigate life in Baltimore. Help us brainstorm workshop topics, find speakers, and organize events. Dust off your language skills as an interpreter in a wide range of languages including French, Spanish, Nepali, Arabic, Burmese, Amharic, American Sign Language, and others.

Whether you are a trained social worker or someone with international interests, an enthusiastic event planner or a born mentor (or all of the above!), ERICA is always looking for committed people who want to provide a true and warm welcome to those seeking a new life in our city.

Urgent Volunteer Needs:
  • Excel expert for client and program records
  • Communications enthusiast for website, newsletter, and Facebook

Ongoing Opportunities:
  • educational workshops:  design, coordination, and/or assistance on day of workshop
  • good neighbor support:  specific short-term or longer-term assistance for individuals and families
  • interpretation/translation:  French, Spanish, Nepali, Arabic, Farsi, Kinyarwanda, and Amharic
  • fundraisers and events:  planning and/or assistance on day of event
  • office administration

Business Workshop Coordinator

Picture
In fall 2013, ERICA held its first business workshop for immigrant women focused on finances, advertising, and networking.  A group of immigrant entrepreneurs worked with an ERICA staff member to organize the event, advertize to the immigrant and refugee communities, and recruit speakers.  The workshop was well-received by speakers and attendees, so we look forward to continuing to promote immigrant entrepreneurship in future workshops.

ERICA is looking for a volunteer to work with our Business Workshop for Immigrant Women Committee and the ERICA staff to plan future business workshops.  The time commitment is flexible, with an additional 10-15 hours the week of the workshop.  We are looking for someone to assist with our workshop planning this spring and potentially take over the workshop coordination for the fall workshop.  It is an amazing and inspiring group of women, and this workshop series is an excellent way to get involved with ERICA clients.  Please contact Eleanor at workshops.erica@gmail.com  or call the ERICA office at (410)467-3751 for more information or to get involved!

Sample Responsibilities:
·         Contact potential speakers
·         Coordinate meetings
·         Organize event logistics (i.e. create agenda, reserve space, gather supplies)
·         Reach out to ERICA clients and partner organizations to recruit attendees
·         Work with committee to design format and objectives of each workshop
·         Create a sustainable plan for future workshops
