The Diversity Immigrant Visa Program (DV Program) is a lottery systems that extends visas to individuals  from countries with low rates of immigration to the United States.

This radio piece details the story of Abdi, a Somali refugee living in Kenya. Abdi is selected as a recipient for a DV. However, as the narrator explains, he faced myriad struggles before eventually being allowed to settle in Maine.

Recently, ERICA helped someone in a similar situation come to Baltimore. While his father had been granted asylum,  he was not eligible for asylee family reunification because he was an adult. Luckily, he won a visa through the DV program. ERICA provided his family with a no interest loan to fly him to Baltimore.

Temporary Protected Status (TPS) allows individuals who are unable to return to their home country due to a disaster or conflict to stay in the United States and have work authorization. Due to the 7.8 magnitude earthquake in Nepal, the DHS has extended this status to Nepalis for the next 18 months.
