Rain in a Dry Land
Over 65 people joined us for this award winning documentary film. "RAIN IN A DRY LAND" chronicles, with poignancy and humor, the resettlement of two Somali Bantu families as they leave behind a two-hundred year legacy of oppression in Africa to face new challenges in a strange new land.  Despite racism, poverty, failures of the school system, and severe culture shock, both families find ways to survive in America and to create a safe haven for their war-torn families.

Guests enjoyed a delicious breakfast, introductory film notes, and a lively discussion of the film that was facilitated by the IRC's Program Manager of Community Integration and External Relations at International Rescue Committee, Kevin Meadowcroft.

Paintings of Home
On Friday June 12th, 85 supporters of ERICA joined us at the stunning Village Learning Place to celebrate hope, perseverance, dignity and tradition of refugees.

Artists Lal Monger from Bhutan, Morris Munyana from Rwanda, and Najwa Al-Amin from Iraq shared their stories and gorgeous paintings that explored the meaning of home for refugees and asylum seekers as they journey to safety.

Bhutanese musicians provided lively background music as guests sampled sumptuous fare and bid on multicultural specialties in a silent auction that raised a record breaking amount of money.

Refugee Evensong
Picture
40 people gathered at the Cathedral of the Incarnation on June 11, 2015 for a Refugee Evensong in honor of world refugee day. This event featured liturgy, music, and true stories of refugee experiences. This event gave people the chance to reflect on the challenges refugees face both abroad and in America.

The program for the event, which includes refugee stories, can be found here.
